George the germ made his first appearance in What are germs?, the first book in The Adventures of George the germ book series. In this book, George and his germ buddies teach the reader what germs are, how they move from person to person, and some of the ways they can impact our bodies. Readers also learn some of the healthy habits we can use to stop the spread.
As the series continues, each book will follow George and his germ buddies on an adventure that will teach a new healthy habit. Along the way, George reminds the reader that germs are everywhere, and that taking care of "SELF" is important.

George the germ began as a children’s story written for a health teaching project almost 50 years ago. Today, he stars in The Adventures of Georg the germ book series and in our Healthy Habits Program. We hope he will become a household name, reminding children (and adults) everywhere about the importance of healthy habits.

This book series is a learning tool. Parents and teachers alike can use these books to educate children about keeping themselves healthy and preventing the spread of germs. By introducing these concepts at a young age, we can help children protect themselves and the people around them. Just remember: spread the word, not the germs!
